After a long wait, we have commenced the build of our first Poachers hut. In response to a number of enquiries for an all inclusive shepherds hut with a bathroom, a kitchen, a log burner and a bed, we have put together our new design which elegantly combines all of these features into an 18 foot hut. The aim was to keep the hut spacious inside and nothing like a caravan! We started with the wheels and the chassis. As the picture above shows, these are far bigger and chunkier than our standard hut wheels. We wanted something hearty and robust which would reflect the hardy nature of our huts! The chassis is made of reinforced steel, with a hardened steel fixed axle- this hut is really being built to pass the test of time! With our standard 16ft huts weighing in around 1.8 tonnes, our Poachers will be our heaviest yet at 2.1 tonnes. Keep your eye on this hut, as we reckon it'll be our best yet! We've got a trio of Poachers Shepherds Huts going out to Godwick Great Barn in the next few months where they'll be available as luxury wedding accommodation- So get proposing!

We’re finally here! After months of deliberating where would be the ideal place to expand, we finally discovered that our ideal workshop was literally (Literally literally, not figuratively) around the corner from our old place, and roughly fifty metres away (That’s about ten shepherd huts laid end-to-end). At two and a half times the size of our old unit, this workshop can have as many as four huts under construction at once! There is ample room for huts under construction and for finished huts to be stored before delivery, and a much larger carpentry area with twice as many benches. Not only that, but we’ve got a dust-free storeroom for paints, fittings and supplies. And finally we’ve got a nice, tidy office to Combobulate in! Complete with our own hand made desks.
With a busy build schedule for the next few months, we’re now taking orders for summer/early autumn. Our phone number is still 01603 397777, but our new address is Unit 3, Liberator Close, Rackheath Industrial Estate, Norwich, NR13 6PR. If you’d like to get your Shepherds Hut in for the summer, get in touch for a place in our order book! Not sure why, but December often seems to be the month when we get celebrity orders! With last December's order book being filled out with Shepherds Huts for author Andrew Clover and actress Elizabeth Hurley, we were delighted to receive a last minute order from BBC Radio 4 Presenter and writer Libby Purves. After a few meetings and a site meeting, it was apparent that we wouldn't be able to actually get a hut into her garden- There simply wasn't enough access! Never the sort to back down, we build our first "flat pack" hut in the workshop, to be carried into Libby's garden piecemeal and assembled in situ. As the location was a fair distance from our workshop, we booked a holiday cottage and spent the next week building the hut- Our first ever "Boys on tour" week! This hut was a 16ft Hideaway model with an end-on stable door, complete with a built in double bed, natural oak floor, up-cycled reclaimed timber shelves, an oak desk and a combination of mains and solar electric supply. Additionally, we supplied it with it's own companion "Bo-Peep Loo"- a matching outhouse with a compact Airhead composting toilet. This featured a similar curved roof, with a painted interior and stained glass window. "I wanted to work with a local company who I could talk into the barmy exercise of building my hut on site, even with the narrow entrance to my garden. The design process was brilliantly friendly and flexible, with Craig seeming rather pleased at the idea of ship-in-a-bottle assembly, not to mention a week with his team in a holiday cottage nearby. The team were very helpful and professional, even washing up their coffee mugs and the finished hut is beautiful. I’m looking forward to my first night out there listening for owls."
It looks as though things will continue to grow here at The English Shepherds Hut Co., and that's not even considering the parallel growth of our sister-company, Timberpad LTD! We wish to thanks everyone who's been a part of this journey so far, and continue to look forward to great things in the future.
As a classic example of our Retreat style hut, Betty features a stable door on the side, a pair of windows with timber shutters, a double bed, day bed, and a cast iron wood burning stove- perfect for those chilly evenings!
The hut also features a discreet solar powered system for interior and exterior lights- the highly efficient solar panel can't be seen from ground level, but stores enough energy to run the lights for hours, even as the days get shorter and darker. Although Betty is our show room hut, she is available for purchase to any good home, so if you'd like to order her in time for Christmas, would like us to build you a similar hut, or something completely different then why not give us a call on 01603 397777! Part of what makes our Shepherd Huts and Timberpad garden buildings unique is the lovingly handmade furniture, fittings and joinery that we build bespoke for our clients- Often our clients need a specific piece of furniture which they simply can't find in a suitable style or for the right price, so we're more than happy to design and build it for them!
Whether it's a custom sized dresser, a bookshelf designed for a very particular size of book, a table for a range of uses, we've built it to suit our customers. With Christmas teetering in the distance, we've opened up a brand new online shop where you can buy some of our classics and even get in touch to devise a few of your own! Based at Breathing Spaces, a holistic retreat in Hickling, this hut was designed as a cosy place to get away from it all and now it's been spruced up with a few decorations it really looks the part!
Whether you want a plain hut so that you can decorate it and fill it with the things you love, or you'd like us to build in everything you need in a completely bespoke model, we can do both! For a friendly chat, give us a call on 01603 397777 or email us at [email protected]. One of our last creations was this garden office build for a busy client who works from home in Salhouse. It was built to serve as an office during the day, but in the evenings become a cosy social space. With a curved oak desk, filing drawers and a lower set window, allowing a pleasant view whilst working, on one end, the other end of the hut features a wood burning stove and a series of "Seat-stores" a handy contraption devised by the Customer and created by our skilled team of craftsmen. These are simply a series of timber storage cabinets for files which push together to form a day bed or a series of separate seats (with felt pads underneath so not to scratch the floor)- Pictures will be added soon. It just goes to show, when we say our designs are bespoke we mean it! Any idea from the client or quirky solution is met with a huge enthusiasm to create something new and always adds a new string to our bow. If you work from home and want a garden office with minimal planning but a huge range of possible fit outs, then get in touch with our friendly team on 01603 397777 and we'll design you something to match. |
